Throughout Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Marquez relates Santiago Nasar with the metaphysical and physical Jesus Christ; however, â€Å"no literary Christ figure can ever be as divine as Jesus Christ† according to Thomas Foster’s â€Å" Yes, She’s a Christ Figure, Too† in How To Read Literature Like A Professor. Advantages and Disadvantages of Cloud Computing in Business

Question: Write about theAdvantages and Disadvantages of Cloud Computing in Business. Answer: Introduction Information technology has emerged as a major ingredient of business and economic activities, analogous to air and water which are essential to biological life. The information technology has become so much pervasive and essential to our lives that we sometimes fail to recognize how much we are dependent on it now. The information, data, and knowledge resources are apparently free or incur least cost in the virtual world. The basic elements of conventional information technology such as hardware, software, network, etc. that used to be concerns of business owners are no more the focus. Now, concept and idea driven approaches to the use of Information technology are in the forefront, and the facilities of cloud, fabric, and outsourced online IT services are the centers of business solutions (Stikeleather Fingar, 2012). Because of its ease of use, and the motive to outwit the competition, the cloud computing service has gained popularity. Many business applications are available in the cloud space and innumerable companies are making use of it. The user company need not develop or maintain a cloud, which is often developed by a cloud service provider, who has invested in the cloud infrastructure. For example, Amazons cloud infrastructure is used by many business organizations (Ha, 2009). Although the cloud computing is useful in increasing the competitive advantage of a company, the cloud service is available to those users who has access to internet on real time basis (Miller, 2009). Cloud computing is useful in conditions which matches the specific needs and resources of a company. The cloud computing has various advantages and disadvantages which needs to be ascertained in order to reap its benefits to the fullest possible extent. Scope of this Project It is indubitable that cloud computing can offer huge benefits to the businesses. Cloud computing is an on-demand service that is set up in a remote location and can be accessed through internet. An integrated service in the cloud is due to the unique configurations of IT resources in the virtual world or in the distributive computing network. The architecture of cloud computing is often uses highly abstract resources, has flexibility and scalability in deployment of the services, uses shared resources such as memory capacity, processing speed, database , etc. (Yang, Huang, Li, Liu, Hu, 2017). There are several alternative models available to the business organizations who intend to use cloud such as pay as you go, software as service, platform for developing new applications, etc. There are many advantages to enterprises by using the cloud systems, and there are disadvantages too. This research is intended to identify the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing, so that the community that is associated with cloud can base their decisions for implementation and policy making. Literature Review Objectives One of the reason the cloud computing has proliferated fast is that business community perceives it as better than other computing systems. Wang Laszewski (2008) has identified one of the reasons behind the preference for cloud computing as the cloud interfaces do not put demand on the business organizations to change their working habits or systems. On the other hand, the grid computing, an alternate to cloud computing requires the users to learn the required commands before using the service. Possibility of virtualization, the application development and use of computing is simpler in the cloud (Weinhardt, Anandasivam, Blau, Ster, 2009). Cloud computing offers different types of services in different models. The three frequent models are SaaS, HaaS, and IaaS. The first one is software-as-a-service (SaaS), which allows the users to pay as they use the software, the second model hardware-as-a-service (HaaS) permits the businesses to buy processing speed over the web. And the last model is infrastructure-as a-service (IaaS), which allows the cloud users to pay for a specific technology that is suitable for the need of the business. All models of cloud services have firewall and anti-virus features attached to the services (Haag Cumming, 2010). The objective of the literature review is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing and to spot the research gaps that can be addressed in this research. Comparative Analysis Some of the major advantages of Cloud computing in business are gathered from the researches. Cost Efficiency Viswanathan (2017) explains that Cloud computing is a cost-efficient approach to use, maintain and upgrade Information technology for business applications with respect to conventional desk top software systems. One of the major costs in maintaining software system is the license fees for multiple users; the cloud offers drastically reduces the license costs and other IT expenses such as annual maintenance fees, up gradation fees, etc. Control of costs is partially in the hands of the business owners, because they have various options of paying such onetime payment, pay as you go, etc. The starting fee for cloud services is reasonable and affordable to smaller firms which intend to use sharper computer applications (Evangelinos, Hill, 2008). Unlimited Storage A cloud service generally provides large storage capacity to its users, which can be reckoned as unlimited. Till now, no data processing job was hindered due to lack of storage capacity. Also, it is easier to upload and transfer huge sets of data accumulated in the day-to-day operations (OGRAPH, Morgens, 2008). For example, Amazon Web Services is renting out storage space in units of gigabytes for a monthly price, which turns out to be cheaper, and the processing service is also offered at CPU hour basis. Both these services can be increased or decreased as per the need of the business, offering flexibility to the mangers. Software Integration and Backup services Cloud allows the business organizations to quickly adopt the processing service without changing any of their system. The need for customization and integration of application to the systems in the organization is absent, and the business organizations can login to the cloud service and feed business data for processing (Kampas, Tarkowski, Portell, Bhatti, 2016). Similarly, backing up and recovery of the data in the cloud is easier and less costly than storing in the house devices. Most clouds have robust recovery systems, which enables the users to have hassle free data restorations. Easy Access and Quick Deployment The registered users to a cloud service can access hardware resources without upfront investments and their information from anywhere. This facility of cloud processing makes the business organizations to expand their business to other places without worrying on how to control the operation. Another advantage of cloud service is the quick utilization of the cloud services (Kumar, Gupta, Charu, Jain, Jangir, 2014). As soon as the dash board for a business is set, it can utilize the services in the cloud within minutes. However, setting up dashboard depends on the needs of the business and the complexity of the technology used in the cloud. Strategic Edge A company that has its products and services focused on the customer needs can benefit from the cloud computing immensely. By adopting cloud approach to data processing, a company can avoid the costly process of acquiring hardware systems, developing customized software systems, installation of the structure, testing it and training the personnel to use the system, etc. (Avram, 2014). Critical IT applications of the business can be deployed quickly without upfront investment. The cost saving combined with focus on customer needs can enhance the competitive advantage of a company and move ahead of competitors. The cycle time required to enter a new market and introduce a new product can be reduced by shifting to cloud computing. Although there are many benefits to cloud computing, there are challenges in using it. Some of the disadvantages of Cloud computing are provided below. Security and Privacy There are many uncertainties surrounding the use of cloud computing, because it is an emerging model of computing. When fossil fuel was invented, nobody thought that it would contribute to the global warming in a significant quantum. Similarly, how the cloud computing will affect the business in the years to come is unknown. Security of the cloud systems, which includes, hardware, networks, application software, data storage, etc. cannot be ascertained. Privacy of the individuals and organizations are exposed to a critical level, and whether the computing services have the ability to protect the data and privacy is not yet confirmed (Voorsluys, Broberg, Buyya, 2011). Many frauds regarding credit card usage, sting operations on wealthy individuals, etc. are occurring due to the inability of the system to protect the personal data. Technical Issues Even though the information in the cloud can be accessed from anywhere, by the authorized users, there are instances of system malfunctions. A failure to access the right information from the cloud may sometimes endanger an organization. Enterprises that depend on the real time and mission critical information, cannot afford to system breakdown during the business hours. Cloud computing is not completely safe from technical outages and issues, which is persuading the critical solution providers to move away from cloud computing. Another technical issue is the availability of data speed, which determines the potential of cloud computing i.e. the higher the speed of data flow, the higher will be the reliability of eservice. It is the responsibility of the cloud service provider as well as the business owners to avail high speed networks and also to promote open access in cloud computing. Reliability and Firewall Protection Storing critical information in the cloud will expose the organizations to threats of hacking and storage loss. The sensitive data protections protocols will eat away all the cost benefits achieved through the cloud system (Almorsy, Grundy, Mller, 2016). Establishing robust cloud with firewall protection and easy integration is difficult to achieve. Reliability of internet connection is another threat to the cloud system. Business applications demand service 24/7 and disruption in data availability can damage the competitive advantage of a business in less time. Though, there are data recovery tools, the downtime due to system failure affects the users in multiple ways, hence the cloud service operators must establish a track record of reliability before giving access to the services. Research Theme (Hypothesis and Question) The use of cloud computing is increasing and the advantages associated with it is undisputable. There are safety issues which need to be overcome by use of innovative approaches to the computing infrastructure. One of the ways is to store encrypted data which can be deciphered only through decoding software. An intermediary service of encrypting the data and decoding it must be introduced in the cloud computing. The data encryption and decoding of the customer data must be carried out by a separate service provider, and the encrypted data should be pushed to the cloud owner. While retrieving the data, the encrypted data should be decoded and presented in a meaningful form to the cloud user. With this arrangement, data security and privacy issues can be addressed to some extent. However, the proposed system must be tested to ascertain the system complexity, cost and benefits. The proposed research may search for the model of data encryption-decoding process and its suitability in the cloud computing. Information coding by third party can enable cloud computing and data storage to be autonomic and self-managing system for protecting privacy. Quality and Currency of Current Literature The literature review used in the current context are drawn from original scholarships and reports by the practitioners in the field of cloud computing. The information gathered are from the written documents such as journals and specialized articles. The research articles referred for this study include theoretical, empirical and analytical accounts by the researchers. Most in text references are drawn from recent studies and publications. The variables included in the review are relevant, contemporary and critical with respect to cloud computing. Validity and Reliability of Sources The current literature review adopts an exploratory approach and included most common drivers of cloud computing. The literature is drawn from reputed publishers and authors; most citations are from peer reviewed journals and has internal validity to the conclusions. Because of the use of scholarly evaluated reports, the information cited in the literature review can be assumed as reliable. Research Gap and Contribution In spite of the disadvantages of the cloud computing, the migration by the business organization to cloud system is ever increasing. In the present context, innovative tools to overcome the disadvantages of cloud computing has to be invented and tried in the real-world application. As a solution to the challenge of privacy protection, data encryption service is suggested. Further research and explorations are needed to adopt this process. Conclusion As illustrated throughout this report, cloud computing has many advantages and drawbacks. But it appears that it has more benefits than challenges. Second, the business community is fast adopting the cloud and it is futile to focus too much on the disadvantages. However, the next exploration must be towards decreasing the effects of disadvantages of cloud computing. A novel approach to overcome the challenge of security and privacy issues are suggested for the study i.e. data encryption by an agency before pushing the data into the cloud database. Viva Las Vegas Essay Example

Viva Las Vegas Essay In the case â€Å"Viva Las Vegas,† is shown how the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority completely changed the type and quality of Las Vegas’ entertainment in order to match, at its best, anyone’s tastes. Due to cyclical demand in the travel industry, the hotel/casino movement was suffering a crisis which pushed LVCVA to make an extended research in 2001 that helped in targeting their markets. Data were able to show which type of ethnicity and household economy situation in order to plan at best its great promotion campaign. . What bases does the LVCVA use for segmenting its target market? Market segmentation helps marketers in dividing a market based on different characteristics such geographic, demographic and psychographic. The data from 2001’s research showed how â€Å"African Americans, Hispanics and Asian Americans accounted for 9, 5, and 5 percent of the total visitor pool. † Thus, one of the bases of LVCVA market segmentation is ethn icity. LVCVA, using ethnic and lifestyle segmentation, focused on a series of commercial aired in 2003-04 showing how Vegas is a city for anyone and for any occasion—the commercials concentrated in showing different ethnicity having a good time in various situations around the city. Hispanics were mostly targeted with commercial recorded in Spanish language and with organization like the International Association of Hispanic Meeting Planners and for African-Americans, the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners. When it came to increase the already low visitor volume from the neighborhood Canada, LVCVA used geodemographics segmentation. Geographic, demographic and lifestyle segmentation were all combined in order to increase the amount of Canadians in the city—trade shows where hosted in the desert and leisure travel planners attended events in Canada to promote their cause. Income segmentation was used for increasing the emerging regional market identified in Portland, Oregon and Atlanta. LVCVA focused on many segments in order to offer a city for anyone at anytime. The eNotes Blog To Kill a(n) Agent Harper Lee Sues to Regain Copyright of Her FamousNovel

To Kill a(n) Agent Harper Lee Sues to Regain Copyright of Her FamousNovel One has to wonder just what sort of a creep youre dealing with when the alleged creep decides to try to bilk money out of one of Americas most beloved, aging novelists. Harper Lee, whose 1961 novel  To Kill a Mockingbird  was an immediate popular and critical success, remains a best-seller, and is on many a high school curriculum, has been in declining health for a number of years. In 2007, she moved to an assisted living center; not long ago, Lee suffered a stroke. At age 87, she is also mostly blind and deaf. So there is good reason to question her ability to truly know that she had recently signed over the rights to  TKAM  to her agent, Samuel Pinkus. Pinkus is the son-in-law of her longtime former agent,  Eugene Winick. From 1960 to 2003, Winick represented Lee at his agency,  MacIntosh and Otis. Winnick stepped aside and gave Lees account to Pinkus and his agency when Winick himself became ill. The lawsuit filed on Lees behalf contends that Pinkus knew that Harper Lee was an elderly woman with physical infirmities that made it difficult for her to read and see.  Harper Lee had no idea she had assigned her copyright to Pinkus’s company. MacIntosh and Otis have already tangled with Pinkus, winning a judgement against Pinkuss company for diverting commissions on numerous accounts.   Harper Lee, too, has had some success in her suits against the agent, removing him as her representative and getting royalties to be paid to her once again. Despite these wins, royalties continue to be diverted to Pinkus. One hopes for a special place in hell.

Introduction to disseration Dissertation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Introduction to disseration - Dissertation Example Based on the Pew Internet Project, the most dominant social network is MySpace and popular among teens; in fact, this site is used by 85% of them since it allows users almost unlimited flexibility in order to create and to customize profile pages (share music, videos, posts, etc.). The next most favorite social networking site is Facebook, which puts a bigger emphasis on people that users have been connected with. Other popular social networking sites include Yahoo, Xanga, and Bebo (Hall, 2007). PEW reports also that around 50% of teenagers also use the sites for the purpose of making new friends, create social plans with friends; and sometimes to flirt. Like most teenagers, other Individual users are known to vary their tendency to adopt and use new technologies like the internet; it is also unclear which personality 2 traits of users are more innovative in information technology than others. This is essential (Nov & Ye, 2008) because personality traits are useful in psychology; in o rder to provide explanation about behaviour and human beliefs. In fact, there have been growing interest on this discipline being very useful as explanatory tool of social users' behavior. On the contrary, there is limited understanding about the interaction between the unique behaviors of the various Internet users, so with the variety of ways that information in the Internet must be presented (Amichai-Hamburger, Kaynar, & Fine, 2005). Studies have shown the connection between the internet users' behaviors on line and individual personality of the user and such connection is highly significant. Moreover, along with the social network's benefits come some risks. Majority of the social networking sites are wide-open to the public, which implies that â€Å"minors† could be exposed to bullying, harassment, or sexual advances. Cyber-bullying, as well as harassment are primarily often perpetrated by other individuals and tend to occur or experience among girls who have a strong se nse of online presence that may take several forms like: publicizing private instant messages, posting threatening messages, text messages or e-mails, spreading rumors, and posting photos that will lead or cause embarrassment. Much of the evident academic research on Facebook has focused towards identity presentation and also on privacy concerns ( Stutzman, 2006; Gross & Acquisti, 2005). Upon observing the amount of information Facebook users provide about themselves, lack of privacy controls by the users, and the relatively open access of information 3 Gross and Acquisti (2005) point out that users may be placing themselves at risk both online (e.g., identify theft) and offline (e.g., stalking). Other current Facebook research reviews student perceptions of instructor temporal patterns of utilization (Golder, Wilkinson, & Huberman, 2007), self-disclosure and presence (Hewitt & Forte, 2006; Mazer, Murphy, & Simonds, 2007), and the relationship between friendship articulation and( pr ofile structure Lampe, Ellison, & Steinfield, 2007). There are also cases (Hall, 2011) that put teens in greater danger such as when this age group become targets of many pedophiles. The anonymity of various social networking sites can make it easier for unscrupulous people to victimize young

The impact of advertising on children and youth Thesis

The impact of advertising on children and youth - Thesis Example Advertising through media options have often been argued, mostly in the negative connotation, to strongly influence the children and youth. Correspondingly, whether media exposure has been one of the major contributory factors towards the degrading social contexts, especially within the segment comprising of children and youth, has been a commonly debated issue in the global plethora (Villani, 2001). Where scientists accuse these media advertising to influence the psychological as well as the physical growth of the children and the youth, socialists argue 21st century advertising to encourage violence within the society. Stating precisely, obesity, learning behavior of children and youth, lifestyle preferences of these populaces and on the whole the development of these individuals have been widely argued as strongly influenced by advertising in the recent phenomenon (Wiecha and Kim, 2013; Kunkel et. al., 2004). Where on one hand, the significance of advertising has increased in the industrial context; on the other hand, social issues such as school drop-outs, teenage pregnancy rate, violent acts performed by young adolescents as well as obesity has also increased. Hence, researchers have often been inclined towards examining any possible linkage between these alterations in the industrial and the social contexts which has, in major instances, led to the classification of advertising as a negative force in this context. It is worth mentioning in this context that advertising is applied with the sole intention to generate awareness amid the targeted audiences. However, when concentrating on the impacts caused by advertising on the children and youth, either positive or negative, it can be observed that not the intention but the contents of advertising tend to impose major influences on these populaces (Diaz, 2011). Apparently, owing to the fact that a majority of the audiences of media today comprises children or youth, it becomes quite challenging to exclude th ese populaces from the audience group even though the message conveyed through the advertising is actually intended towards other age group people. Role of parental guidance has also been argued in this context which is expected to obstruct the negative influences caused by advertising on the adolescents. However, studies conducted with emphasis on this particular aspect, yet lack precise connotation to the linkage or the impact caused by advertising on children and youth along with the limitation of rational judgments on the role of family as well as the advertisers to combat such an issue (The Australian Psychological Society, 2000). This thesis will be aimed at assessing the linkage between advertising initiatives through television, internet as well as print media and the development of children and youth from a social perspective taking into account the various measures recently adopted by governmental bodies, industrial communities as well as social organizations. With this ai m, the thesis will critically evaluate the psychological as well as the physical impacts caused by advertising on the populaces (i.e. the children and youth) suggesting few remedial actions based on the identified benefits and risks associated with such media exposures. Advertising to the Young Audiences Advertising to the young audiences, that is to the children and the youth has been proved to be quite beneficial for the advertising industry throughout the globe. It has been apparently observed in this similar circumstance that the advertising industry spends nearly about $12 billion per year on making advertisements particularly targeting to the

The relation of quality management and risk management -or- the future Thesis Proposal

The relation of quality management and risk management -or- the future of quality management with risk management - Thesis Proposal Example Widdop et al (2007, p.2) observes that integrating the two approaches to management requires communication. There is a gap in the existing literature of the lack of a framework of enhancing the integration of quality management with risk management and this is the focus of this study. Developing this integrative framework will make it easy for organizations to manoeuvre these important approaches to management. According to Williams et al (2006, p.68) risk management intersects with quality management at the point at which it seeks to ensure the effectiveness, efficiency and economy of a business strategy or process. Quality management is the design and execution of products and services with the objective of meeting and preferably exceeding customers’ expectations without the wastage of available resources (Williams et al 2006, p.68). Risk management identifies, prioritizes, addresses, and eliminates potential sources of failure of the services and products to meet their set objectives. In this context, risk management is a pre-emptive, proactive, predictive, and preventive endeavour. After studying a number of companies, Williams et al (2006, p.69) found that reducing risk deltas reduces objective gaps and variation hence increasing process quality. Kuhn and Youngberg (2002, p.159) asserted quality is one of the important issues in risk-based approach to management alongside health, safety and environment. After examining five organizations, Kuhn and Youngberg (2002, p.159) found that continuous improvement, stakeholder satisfaction, adherence to standards and checks and balances, optimizing the quality of every investor’s dollar and prevention are quality principles and practices that seamlessly fit into risk management. Kuhn and Youngberg (2002, p.160) observe that the Six Sigma is an exemplar case of how to integrate quality management with risk management. For example, he notes that Six Sigma’s DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve,

Communication Is The Essence Of Life English Language Essay

Communication Is The Essence Of Life English Language Essay Introduction: Any act by which one person gives to or receives from other person information about that persons needs, desires, perceptions, knowledge, or affective states. Communication may be intentional or unintentional, may involve conventional or unconventional signals, may take linguistic or nonlinguistic forms, and may occur through spoken or other modes.   Communication is the intercourse by words, letters or messages- Fred G. Meyer. Imagine a world without communication!  You have a brilliant plan with you but dont possess the power of communication. You have a strong wish for something, but cannot communicate your desires. Life would be dull, blank and the world would not be worth living. Such is the authority of communication. Communication is the essence of life: It is necessary to convey themselves, human beings need to communicate .An human being has to communicate to express his feelings, pass on information to the other human being and share his opinion and feelings. Types of Communication: There are four types of communication. Verbal Communication. Non Verbal communication Written commutation Visual Commutation Verbal Communication: Verbal communication which involves sound, words, languages and speaking. There are many languages spoken in the world such as Urdu, English, and French etc. The basic language arrangements are gender, class, profession, geographical, area age group and supplementary social fundamentals. Non Verbal Commutation: Non verbal communication involves physical behavior of communications such as tone of the voice , touch, smell and body motions. Creatives and visual non verbal communication such as singing, music, dancing and sculpturing Written Communication: Written communication is writing the words which you want to communicate .Good written communication is compulsory for businesses purpose .Written communication is practices in many different languages like E-mails, reports, articles and memos are some of the conduct of using written communication in business. Visual Communication: This is the last type of communication is the visual communication. Visual communication is visual demonstrate of information such as topography, Photography, sign, symbols, and designs. Television and videos clips are the electronic form of visual communication. Managerial Communication: Managerial communication is a function which helps managers communicate with each other as well as with employees within the organization Communication helps in the relocate of information from one party also called the sender to the other party is called receiver. Managerial Communication helps in the smooth flow of information between managers operational towards a common objective. The message has to be clear and well understood in helpful communication. The group members should recognize what their manager or team leader intends to communicate. Effective managerial communication enables the information to flow in its desired form among managers, team leaders and their respective teams. Managerial communication is of the following two types: Interpersonal Communication   Interpersonal communication normally takes place between two or more persons at the workplace. Organizational Communication   Communication taking place at all levels in the organization refers to managerial communication. behavior of Managerial Communication A successful manager is one who communicates successfully with his subordinates. It is really necessary for managers to converse their views undoubtedly for the group members to understand what exactly is likely out of them. Usually there are two ways managers communicate between themselves and with their subordinates: Verbal Communication: Communication done with the facilitate of the words is called verbal communication. No record is available in verbal communication. Managers must know how to communicate with the employees. He much select the right words while talking with group members. He tone of the voice should be polite and when manager is talking to the employees .They can understand easily what manager is say either they are confuse what manager is saying. Written Communications: Communications is done by emails, letters, reports, etc. Manager much knows how to write the letter or email to the employees. etc not to use color forts and also the size of the forts are same. Body Language: Manager must take care of their body language their appearance should b excellent. Manager should be friendly with the group member but not joking all the time. Managers have to maintain the standard. When the manager talk voice should be clear that everybody can hear and understand easily and most important thing is while he is talking or addressing the employees selection of words must be good. Organizational Communications: There are two types of organizational communication. Formal communication In formal communication Formal Communications: Commutation which fellow hierarchy at the work place. Employees much talk formally in the work place regarding the work done on time or not. Informal Communications: Mostly employees used to talk informally while they are having lunch or dinner or sitting together .E.g. planning for picnic or movie etc. Direction of Communications Flow: There are two types of direction of communication flow Upward communication Down ward communication. Upward Communications: Flow of the information from the employees towards managers .When employees share the view of the work nature, job, responsibilities and what they feel about the organization. Down ward communication: Down ward communication take place when the flow of the information from managers to workers. When manager give work to the employees is called down ward communication. Communications Barriers: There are a wide number of sources of noise or interference that can enter into the communication process which prevent the achievement of the desired result. There are five types of barriers. Language: Language is a big barrier in the communication like I speak Urdu and you speak Malaysian we cant talk to each other with a common language. We need translator or we can talk in common language like English Information Overload. If you are a manager of a company and you are taking to the workers which are not educated and you are telling them in good and selective word which they cant understand also communication barrier. Time pressure: You are manager of the company and you are addressing to the workers and you have only 15mins to say but you have to share the plane of the company and you are speaking fast .Few things are understand by the worker and they are confuse in few things is also the communication barrier. Emotions: You are sitting in the meeting and you gave work to the employees and they have to give output of the work but they are not able to give the result and you became angry and start shouting on him is also the communication barrier. Distraction / Noise: You are attending the formal meeting in the meeting room and discussing a serious issue and party is going on next to the meeting room and you also hear the noise of the cars and horn from the road and you are not concert at in the meeting is also the communication barrier. Recommendation: If you are on the manager post and you want to get more high post or you want to improve yourself to be a batter manager of the company so you have to learn at least 3 ways of communication skill which are as fellows. Clear communication: As a manager you must have to do clear management that everybody can understand easily and also when you are writing the letter to the employees you must know the art of writing the letter. Dont use color forts and different types of forts. Listen: As a manager you have to listen the employees .what they are saying is they are complaining or they want to share the information which is very important for the company .It is also your duty to listen the media and your competitors. This is important to improve your communication skills. Respect: As a manager you have to give respect to every employee in the organization either you are giving order to the employees. If a tense satiation is there you must be polite and dont disrespect the employees. This is also important for communication skills. Conclusion: Communication is very important in your life .Without communication we cant express your feelings. Sometimes communication barrier occurs so we cannot communicate with each other .Specially if your are working in the organization you much have to finish the communication barrier it is the betterment of the company .And for the manager s point of view they much improve their communication skills and body language of the manager should be excellent .Manager should be a role model he have the potential to work in the stress with patience.

Capital Punishment Must Be Abolished Essay -- Anti-Death Penalty Essay

Capital punishment is used to bring justice to the crimes of murderers in our society, but is it really just? Studies show that the death penalty is cruel, morally wrong, and sometimes painful. It robs the criminal and the public of their humanity and undermines the value of life. The public should come to realize the cruelty of this law, and this form of punishment should be abolished from the government's criminal justice system. Philosopher's first began to question the justice of capital punishment in the eighteenth century. Italian criminologist Cesare Beccaria condemned capital punishment as a grossly inhumane deterrent to crime, and modern critics argue that all killing is wrong and can never be justified, whether it is done by a criminal or the government. When the state executes a criminal while saying murder is wrong, it denies the value of human life (Capital Punishment, 17). They cannot teach that killing is wrong by killing (Deacons of Paterson, 51). All human lives are equally valuable despite chosen moral behavior, but some people think that only the lives of the morally innocent are truly â€Å"human.† Is there a person out there who is truly morally pure and innocent? Under this type of thinking, any person could easily be put into a subhuman category that is condemned. Is there a clear distinction between the two? America was founded on the principle that each individual is an end in h imself. Killing these criminals contradicts the highest moral end of civil society: the human life (Bidinotto, 23). The taking of life is the ultimate possible waste (24). Today, Americans are in search of a tame, reliable, or â€Å"perfect† way of carrying out the death penalty. Human Embryonic Stem (hES)

Human embryonic stem (hES) cell has a unique ability of differentiating into all cell types, which leads to the development of the whole organism. As the integrity of ES cells is crucial for the developing embryo, these cells have likely evolved a mechanism that will detect and respond to adverse stimuli. Indeed, hES cell has been shown to be highly sensitive to DNA damage, but the molecular mechanisms underlying this rapid death remain unclear. Caspases are critical mediators of apoptosis in the cells of mammals, and is considered a key protein that is responsible for controlling their activation is Bax, a Bcl-2 family proapoptotic member. While the main components of the apoptotic pathway have been known and identified, exactly how this pathway is functioning and regulated in various primary cells is still unclear. The study examined the apoptotic pathway in the hES cells and also reported a unique mechanism of hES cells that can help them to undergo apoptosis in response to the genotoxic damage. To visualize GFP-tagged Bax, the 3-day colonies of hES cells were transfected with 2 mg of hBaxC3-EGFP from Addgene with FuGENE HD transfection reagent from Roche. Transfection is the process of by which nucleic acids is introduce to the eukaryotic cells by methods that are nonviral. With the help of some various methods such as chemical, physical, lipid methods, this technology of gene transfer technology is a very powerful tool to investigate the gene function and the expression of protein of a cell. Assay-based reporter technology, and with the availability of transfection reagents will actually give and provides the foundation necessary to study sequences of mammalian promoter and enhancer, the trans-acting proteins such as transcription factors, processing of mRNA, the interactions of different proteins, recombination, and translation events. In general, transfection is a method or protocol used to neutralize or obviate the issue of introducing the negatively charged molecules such as phosphate backbone of DNA and RNA into the negatively charged membrane of the cells. In addition, chemicals such as calcium phosphate and cationic lipid-based reagents that coat the DNA, neutralize or even creates an overall positive charge to the molecule is also used. This makes it easier for the DNA to transfection reagent complex to cross the said membrane, especially for lipids which has a fusogenic component that further enhances the fusion with the different lipid bilayer. Other methods such as physical methods like microinjection or electroporation have also been used that is simply punch through the membrane and will introduce DNA directly into the cytoplasm. In this study, they describe the striking feature of the healthy undifferentiated hES cells, which maintain Bax in its preactivated state at the Golgi that is in contrast to other cell types. The results also highlight the fact that the apoptotic machinery undergoes a dynamic change even if its an early stages of differentiation.

Archemides essays

Archemides essays Archimedis was born in 287 BC. We also know that Archimedes died in 212 BC at the age of 75 in Syracuse. It is said that a Roman soldier, who was offended by Achimedes, while the Romans seized Syracuse, killed him. Archimedes had a wide variety of interests, which included encompassing, statistics, hydrostatics, optics, astronomy, engineering, geometry, and arithmetic. Archimedes had more stories passed down through history about his clever inventions than his mathematical theorems. Archimedes most famous story is about the king asking a guy to make him a gold crown. The king supplied the guy with the gold and told him to get it done. This guy asked Archimedes to think of some way to test the weight of gold. Archimedes was unsuccessful until one day as he entered a full bath, he noticed that the deeper he went into the tub, the more water flowed out of the tub. This discovery made him realize that the amount of water that flowed out of the tub was equal to the volume of the object be ing put in. Therefore by putting the gold into the water, he could tell by the rise in water level the volume of the gold. ...

Precipitate Definition and Example in Chemistry

Precipitate Definition and Example in Chemistry In chemistry, to precipitate is  to form an insoluble compound either by reacting two salts or by changing the temperature to affect the solubility of the compound. Also, the name given to the solid that is formed as a result of a precipitation reaction. Precipitation may indicate a chemical reaction has occurred, but it may also occur if solute concentration exceeds its solubility. Precipitation is preceded by an event called nucleation, which is when small insoluble particles aggregate with each other or else form an interface with a surface, such as the wall of a container or a seed crystal. Key Takeaways: Precipitate Definition in Chemistry In chemistry, precipitate is both a verb and a noun.To precipitate is to form an insoluble compound, either by decreasing the solubility of a compound or by reacting two salt solutions. The solid that forms via a precipitation reaction is called the precipitate.Precipitation reactions serve important functions. They are used for purification, removing or recovering salts, for making pigments, and to identify substances in qualitative analysis. Precipitate vs Precipitant The terminology can seem a bit confusing. Heres how it works: Forming a solid from a solution is called precipitation. A chemical that causes a solid to form in a liquid solution is called a precipitant. The solid is called the precipitate. If the particle size of the insoluble compound is very small or there is insufficient gravity to draw the solid to the bottom of the container, the precipitate may be evenly distributed throughout the liquid, forming a suspension. Sedimentation refers to any procedure that separates the precipitate from the liquid portion of the solution, which is called the supernate. A common sedimentation technique is centrifugation. Once the precipitate has been recovered, the resulting powder may be  called a flower. Precipitation Example Mixing silver nitrate and sodium chloride in water will cause silver chloride to precipitate out of solution as a solid. In this example, the precipitate is silver chloride. When writing a chemical reaction, the presence of a precipitate may be indicated by following the chemical formula with a down arrow: Ag Cl- → AgCl↓ Uses of Precipitates Precipitates may be used to identify the cation or anion in a salt as part of qualitative analysis. Transition metals, in particular, are known to form different colors of precipitates depending on their elemental identity and oxidation state. Precipitation reactions are used to remove salts from water, to isolate products, and to prepare pigments. Under controlled conditions, a precipitation reaction produces pure crystals of precipitate. In metallurgy, precipitation is used to strengthen alloys. How to Recover a Precipitate There are several methods used to recover a precipitate: Filtration: In filtration, the solution containing the precipitate is poured over a filter. Ideally, the precipitate remains on the filter, while the liquid passes through it. The container may be rinsed and poured onto the filter to aid recovery. There is always some loss, either through dissolution into the liquid, passing through the filter, or adhesion to the filter media. Centrifugation: In centrifugation, the solution is rapidly rotated. For the technique to work, the solid precipitate must be more dense than the liquid. The compacted precipitate, called the pellet, may be obtained by pouring off the liquid. There is typically less loss than with filtration. Centrifugation works well with small sample sizes. Decantation: In decantation, the liquid layer is poured or suctioned away from the precipitate. In some cases, an additional solvent is added to separate the solution from the precipitate. Decantation may be used with the entire solution or following centrifugation. Precipitate Aging A process called precipitate aging or digestion occurs when a fresh precipitate is allowed to remain in its solution. Typically the temperature of the solution is increased. Digestion can produce larger particles with a higher purity. The process that leads to this result is known as Ostwald ripening. Struggle of the Spanish Armada Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Struggle of the Spanish Armada - Assignment Example We have no choice but to turn to back Spain; we have no fresh water, we’re out of food, and our ammunition is limited. Some of my comrades have resorted to eating rope! The English fleet has routed us and we are forced to fight our way around Scotland. From there we will return to Spain, hopefully alive. I have been counting the days and nights but I have lost track of time. The English have stopped their attacks for some reason but now we have a new foe. The treacherous waters rock our armada to its will and the harsh rains beat into ships like stones. The moral of my comrades is beckoned into the depths of the ocean by this raging storm. I pray to our Lord that we will make our way safely back into our homeland. The storm has ceased its attack upon our Armada. I could have sworn that we had about twice as many ships at the launch of the invasion. Our captain and our crew are growing weary from fatigue and empty bellies. Many of the ships of the Armada, including our own, are splitting up and sailing into Ireland. I’m sure our Catholic brethren will be most hospitable. There we can fill our bellies and rest before returning to Spain. As we pulled up into the harbor, we were not met with friendly eyes. Our ships were being sunk and men were washing up ashore, dead and alive. I watched in horror as our own ship was struck by the enemy.

Impact of technology on society Phone Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Impact of technology on society Phone - Essay Example People use it in their daily lives for communicating with friends, family and colleagues. In the same way, it is used in business organizations as a most powerful communication tool. The basic purpose of this research is to analyze how this technology has changed the shape of society. This paper will discuss the past, present and future if this technology. In this scenario, this research will outline the applications of this technology in various areas of life and what role it plays in society. What is the technology? It is an admitted fact that the impact of the telephone on society started immediately after Alexander Graham Bell’s invention of telephone system. Basically, the major objective of Alexander Graham Bell was to build a telephone that could provide everyone (whether they are rich and poor) with a way of collaboration and communication and a capability of technology based systems by making use of the telephone. Without a doubt, the phone, which refers to an electri cal setup for copying in remote places the tones and articulations of a speaker's voice, was was basically emerged as the initial communication medium to support us to maintain relationships and dealings over long distances. In addition, Graham Bell also recommended potencies that admittedly sounded utopian. According to his viewpoints â€Å"it is believable that cables of telephone wires could be placed underground, or balanced above your head, allowing the communication with branch wires using private residences, country houses, shops, manufactories, etc." (Greatest Achievements3, 2012; Kang, 2005). History and Evolution In order to launch this product he took the help from the forerunner of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company that later on became one of the largest organizations of that time. However, it was split apart in 1989 in an attempt to resolve an antitrust outfit by the U.S. Justice Department, on the other hand AT&T took the ownership and spent hundreds of bil lions of dollars in purchasing machinery, generated yearly income reaching to approximately 2 percent of the daily used products of the US, and bought by more than a million people. In this scenario, AT&T's division changed the company’s situation radically, however the telephone's basic role in business and personal communications has only increased since the invention of this device. In fact, the current technology is giving Bell's invention a crowd of new powers (Greatest Achievements, 2012; Greatest Achievements, 2012; Kang, 2005). In addition, telephones were used by linking not only through wires but also through microwaves, optical fibers, communications satellites, computerized switching systems and networks of cellular towers that are used to establish connection between two callers on the earth simply and immediately. Additionally, the telephone is currently mediating billions of long distance communications and dealings on a daily basis-eight per person, approximat ely, in the United States. As Bell demonstrated in his catalog and it is a fact that it is "employed for almost every function and in every walk of life where speech is used," and its uses vary from idle chat to emergency calls. Moreover, with the passage of time the emergence of digital data such as text messages and pictures often moves in the same ways and routes as conversation. And it is believed that modern life and the telephone are inextricably tangled (Greatest Achieve

The Role of Strategic Entrepreneurship Dissertation

The Role of Strategic Entrepreneurship - Dissertation Example Particular attention would is given to how they are applied in detail. At the end of this chapter, the proponent carefully elaborates the need to use of structural equation modeling, as a tool to put finally everything in detail into a model with valid empirical implications. This research would want to find out more about strategic entrepreneurship in the midst of prevailing tough competition. Concerning this, it is the main goal of the proponent to identify information with empirical evidence if each firm could still consider achieving individual competitive edge even if they would employ relevant competitive strategies. However, in order to identify this point, the proponent should ensure identification of the relevant methodology that would serve the objective of the study while it also would ensure validity of the output of the research study. This research aims to understand more about strategic entrepreneurship in the midst of prevailing dynamic competition. The proponent would want to find out if a firm could still guarantee competitive advantage even if they would employ relevant competitive strategies. Therefore, the following general question should generate answer at the end. When firms engage in strategic entrepreneurship does it establish temporal competitive advantage in a dynamic environment when competing vis-Ã  -vis other competitors in the industry with the objective of creating value for the society as a whole, shareholder of the firms, and the individuals? As already stated, the proponent would want to employ both quantitative and qualitative information from the existing studies linked up with strategic entrepreneurship. Empirical investigation is therefore necessary in order to create substantial empirical evidence based on the existing theoretical concepts linked up with the subject matter that the proponent considers in this research study.

How I Reach My Dream Essay Example for Free

How I Reach My Dream Essay As human being, all of us have dreams needs to achieve them. The poor people have dreams and the rich people as well. Dreams are the most amazing thing in the life. We all love to dream to hope and see ourselves going to be better and better each day. However, I know some people may say that dreams are hard to follow and it’s impossible to be real. But that’s actually not true, because our dreams are in our hands. We are the ones that can control them and makes them real. For me, I was looking up to many things during my life like; learning English, and I am good at it and completing my higher degree. I will show you how I reach my dream and became true. In 2005, when I graduated from high school, I was planning to major in Computer Engineering at King Fahd University or King Faisal University, but my accumulative GPA was not what they are asking for. Therefore, they didn’t accept me. I felt like I had the worst luck ever. After a few days my friend informed me that I have been accepted in College of Technology At Dammam. I was more than happy, because I can get my diploma degree. I studied English language and Math in my first year. I did a great job, so they approve my major as Computer Engineering. But, I was depressed at the beginning because this college didn’t have Bachelor Degree they only have diploma degree. However, having diploma degree is better than nothing. After I graduated from College of Technology At Dammam In 2008, I started looking for a job for about three months. Finally, I had been accepted in Tide Company. The offer told me that I have to work as IT Helper for 8 hours from Saturday to Wednesday. Working in a company as helper is not my dream. However, I have no other choices. So I worked for this company to have experience and to save money as well. I really got a huge experience from coworkers and I used to love my job. Unfortunately, a huge problem occurred between the supervisor and me. The supervisor did not give me a recommendation to raise my salary. However, I was working hard for Tow years and half. I sat at home for more than a month thinking about the old thought and what I suppose to do. Although, my mother doesn’t write and read she said you have to make the right move I asked her HOW? She said you want to become an engineer don’t you? So, why don’t you go to Canada to complete your study? I will be proud of you. I felt like yes this is my chance. I talked with my father about going to Canada to study and he encouraged me to do it. So, he promised me to help me as much as he can. I applied for ELS English Language Center. Then I filled out the VISA application and after two weeks I got the Canadian VISA. I arranged everything to travel and I sold my car. The last day for me in Saudi Arabia with my family was difficult. I hate to say bye to whom I love. In the morning, I went with my family and my colas friends to the airport. My flight was like this from Dammam to Qatar, then from Qatar to Toronto. It was too long; the total duration is 16 hours. Finally, I arrived to Toronto to study English. I studied for one year in Toronto to complete my English program. When I have done my program, I applied for the IELTS Test. After 15 days I got my scare. I did a greet job I got 5 in the IELTS, after that I decided to came to the United State. At the same month I applied for The ISU and I have been accepted and they transfer all my previous credits. The life here in the United State is different, because of the cultural differences between Middle East and western countries. I had many problems, but I am truing to achieve my dreams. In conclusion, dreams are nothing but thoughts and ideas of ones mind, so set your dreams right in front your eyes and work hard for them. There is no doubt you will reach them someday. Basically, what you would like to be actually depends on you in the first place. All you need is a relentless pursuit to achieve your dreams and dont stop until you do. Through sweat, blood and tears, let nothing slow your pursuit. So, I wrote my story to help any hopeless person who belief that life will not end with the first problem.

Chelsea Green Publishing Company: An Overview :: Essays Papers

Chelsea Green Publishing Company: An Overview Book publishing enjoys a certain social prestige—it can be both moderately profitable and extremely rewarding in psychological benefits. The odds that a publishing entrepreneur will succeed at this business seem to be related to the degree of care and thought given to planning and the sometimes-tricky balancing act of effective management. Sustainability is a balance of economy and ecology. That is, how we satisfy human needs and still preserve what we have in nature. Examples of this are the forest industry and energy. We must find ways to harvest a forest without destroying the forest. Similarly, we must find practical alternatives to energy sources, such as solar and wind power, so that we don't harm the atmosphere and deplete natural resources. The following is an account of Chelsea Green Publishing Company, a small publishing business that has successfully found its niche, while at the same time has made (and continues to make) the world a bit more sustainable. In 1985, Ian Baldwin and his wife Margo founded Chelsea Green Publishing Company in their house located near Chelsea, Vermont's green. It was in the middle of the Reagan era—not an especially favorable time to start a publishing company that even remotely highlighted environmental issues. In fact, the books that the Baldwins published then didn't really have a unifying theme, they were simply "nice" books that were well written, finely edited and beautifully produced. Earlier in his life, Ian spent five years as an editor at Holt, Rinehart, Winston before leaving to join the Institute for World Policy, a non-profit organization with a mission to organize intellectuals from around the world in a quest for world peace. He later worked as a consultant for the Environmental Defense Fund on a project to convince Pacific Gas and Electric Company that through conservation, co-generation, and the use of renewable resources, the utility could avoid building new nuclear or coal power plants. In 1984 the Baldwins' neighbor, gardening writer Eliot Coleman, shared with them a story that Helen Nearing had given him years earlier. The author of the fictional piece was Jean Giono, and the title was The Man Who Planted Hope and Grew Happiness, which first appeared in Vogue in 1954. It was a tale of a shepherd who singlehandedly reforested thousands of acres in war-ravaged Europe.

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE HEALTH AND NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS Essay

Design leaflet or fact sheet that explains the effect of four factors that can influence the health and everyday needs of individuals in society. Socio-economic: Bad Living conditions. Living conditions can affect your physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs depending on the places that you are living in or the quality of life you lead. Every human is affected differently depending on age or sex. We need to remember that environment that we are living in can have one of the biggest effects on a person for the rest of their life.  Bad conditions in any home such as cold, damp or mould can exacerbate or even speed up various symptoms  and illness such as asthma and eczema, or can lead to strokes or a heart attack. As levels of dampness increase, our basic physical needs get worse. We need to remember that our home is our shelter, but we cannot feel safe and comfortable if conditions that we live in are not pleasant.  If the house’s humidity process of losing heat is rapid in the winter time you will have to heat the property longer to feel warm and comfortable. In this kind of environment food can get mouldy quicker and doesn’t stay fre sh for long time, so we need to remember to keep it for short time and consume while in good condition. Read more: Factors that influence child development essay Sometimes bad living conditions can make nights sleepless. This situation, if constant can lead to exhausting your body, which can cause severe sickness, but also can lead to depression. You’re learning progress and ability to gain new skills are also affected, as you can’t concentrate on goals that you set for yourself.  Emotionally you can be in deep depth as well as your physical needs. If you do not feel comfortable in the environment you live in, you cannot build new  friendships, as feelings of embarrassment will leading this case. The level of self-conception is poor. How you can feel good, if your background is not really satisfying you? Feelings of being afraid to belong to any of social group are natural, as nobody wants to feel stressed about inviting someone to their home if you know that condition you live in is bad and can scare others. Humidity and a mouldy house can make your clothes smell horrible even if you don’t feel that by yourself, as y ou live in this condition, other people can smell it.  Living conditions can influence on your social needs like a relationship and family. That can cause constant arguing between couples and lead to separation or divorce. Physical: Sensory impairment – blindness Physical – as blind person your home needs to be adapted to your condition to be comfortable and functional at the same time. You need to feel safe and be safe in your own property. That is why it is very important for a blind person to have someone to assist them on daily basis. Very often it happens that blind people can move around and are using a white stick or have trained dog to help them move around town or even your own house. It is important not to change home decor frequently as a blind person usually remembers where things are and to float around the house by using memory. Being visually impaired can be really hard especially if you lost your vision in an accident or sickness. You may feel unsafe in your own home as physical comfort been disrupted. Your ability to move is limited, even if you feel like you want to prepare a meal for yourself, you need constant supervision from somebody to help you, and make sure you will not leave gas cooker switched on. Visually impaired people, to read, use a special language called Braille. By using this form of communication they are able to read and follow instructions easily.  Blind people learn by using books written in Braille or by listening to recorded information on CD’s or MP3 players etc. Visual impairment is not a barrier to learn or achieve anything in life. It is enough if you ‘want to’ because you can learn anything you like.  Sometimes a situation of non-acceptance of your own condition can be depressive and you may see yourself as not a fully able person or you can feel like you missed something in your life. It is difficult to be open with people as high volume of discrimination is still on display on a daily basis. To maintain new friendships can be hard and difficult, but if you are actively taking part with events or courses for blind people you should be able to develop more self-confidence. On these occasions’ people with the same doubts and problems surrounds you. This can help to understand and accept your own situation.  Blind people recognise voices very well. They can also recognise shapes by using hands and sense of touch. By this method they are able to describe how another person looks like by touching your body or face. This can show that visually impaired people can have normal happy life, and not being able to see it is not a barrier to have a poor quality life and relationship followed by having a family and been loved by someone. By taking a part in groups for visually impaired people you may develop good level of self-esteem. You can feel more accepted and wanted when surrounded by people, which know how to help you and support you on every step. Lifestyle – smoking cigarettes If we look at a case of heavy smokers we could say that this addiction can affect almost every aspect of your life. Normally you do not feel the need to eat much oroften as you constantly have the taste of nicotine in your mouth. If you are trying to quit it is more possible that you will look for cover to your addiction by eating more frequently and more heavy meals. Smokers usually smoke straight after meal, but when having alcoholicdrinks it is possible to smoke more. Your home probably (if smoking inside) smells unpleasant and will be surrounded by nicotine odour. Smoking can cause many illnesses and can even cause death. When smoking inside your house you have to be really careful to not burn anything, especially when smoking while you are really tired. Smoking can cause tightening of the lungs so you are at risk of lung cancer development, asthma or other diseases. You are less able to exercise as you getting exhausted more often and quicker than non-smokers. By looking at your self-conception, you may feel you are better than others but from the other side people can look at you like on weak person being addicted to cigarettes.  You may feel like you have achieved something but that is not true. Smoking is not making you better person.  If you are onlyperson in your household that has been smoking this can affect your relationship and your family. Your partner may feel disgusted as smokers usually have yellow teeth and smell from their mouth is not really pleasant, even if using special sprays to kill odour. You can gain a respect from others if you are in group of people that are all smoking but you can easily loose it as well e.g. when smoking around kids or in inappropriate places. Many people are smoking just when going out (social smokers), when meeting friends as they do not want to look different or out of place. Sense of belonging to a community group makes you feel needed and respected by others. Smoking is often used as an excuse for bad mood, but after a cigarette nothing has changed apart from your breath. Health – chronic disorder:long term back pain This disorder can affect every day of your life. You need to make sure that your shelter is well adjusted to your needs. Having constant back pain can cause problems when climbing up stairs, so it would be really useful to have a ground flat so you do not need to climb to high or at least have a lift in your block.  To have special exercise program to follow would help to avoid worsening pain and making the condition worse. Lifting and carryingheavy items like boxes or heavy shopping can deteriorate this condition even more. If pain is excruciating it is possible to have less sleepless nights, whichcan cause problems leading to depression.  Constant back pain can cause many emotional problems.Back pain can be really unbearable, so taking medications that are designed to help us to cope with pain is not a bad move. Some people, by taking painkillers feel weak, but medicine is designed to help us not to make us feel bad about it.  People with constant back pain tend to get frustr atedand change moods rapidly. Self-conception of how you see yourself may become low and a feeling of not being fully valuable person can lead. Really, often people are questioningthemselves: why this is happening now, at this time, why me? Finding the answer is really hard especially whenperson is left on its own, but there aremany people with this kind of problems.  Trying to sort out all problems on your own by understanding situation is not easy. The best option is to join group that is designed to support aperson on every step through a period of accepting thesituation. Group memberships are designed not just to help you to cope with pain but also to make you feel like normal person. On this occasion you are able to meet new friends and spend quality time with someone else, not just being left on your own at home.  In some cases chronic pain can affect the ability to learn and achieve a satisfactory level of success, as ability to concentrate is disrupted by the  pain. On the other side, a person affected by chronic back pain can spend hours in an armchair reading books and filling up crosswords, which can expand your knowledge, just to not move around and to not feel a pain.

Business Management And Leadership

The world has changed significantly since globalization. Along with it, the concept of business management and leadership has changed too. In today’s world, a manager must be an open-minded person with multicultural knowledge and an able leader to amalgamate all the different cultural parameters of the clients and workers. In this context of global Leadership of multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary team of professionals under the aspects of Management principals can be defined as the art of creating industrial relations of any kind, between people engaged in the industry, such as relation between employers and employees, relation between individuals entering into commercial contracts, relation between investors and debtors etc, in order to maintain true cooperation of all concerned along with motivating the entire deal into a positive favor.(Lamb, 2004) Efficiency of the Leadership of multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary team of professionals in the age of globalization lie s in not only making the employees to work, but to make them work willingly, sincerely and consciously, by employing new knowledge, new methods, new designs, new machines and novel techniques of production and by allaying mistrust and antagonism. The managerial purpose takes account of a several activities, and the most important among them is making a decision what staffing requirements one have and whether to use autonomous contractors or take into service employees to meet these needs, appointing and training the most excellent employees, making sure that they are better performers, handling performance related problems, and ensuring that the human resources and administrational practices do the accepted thing to various set of laws. Thus, it is obvious that the parameters of today’s managers are very different from the managers of the years gone by. The new managers are more flexible to work and cultural variables. References: Lamb, D; (2004); Cult to Culture: The Developme nt of Civilization on the Strategic Strata; Wellington: National Book Trust Business Management And Leadership I am HR department personnel of the organization; it is a prime duty to recruit a manager for a department within the Services division. The Vice President stresses that this department has not had a good manager in years. I need someone who can take charge, organize things, and get people motivated and working again. Here are list of ten questions that I will use during the interview process that go beyond the information one can gain from the candidates application or resume. These would provide me the insight into why the candidate can fulfill the requirements outlined by the HR manager. How would you assess yourself as a potential candidate for the post of manager in the service division and why? What are the basic principals of a service department success? During a situation of argument or heated discussion, how would you handle your officers? How would you council a personnel who has gone through a personal turmoil but is a very important member of your team? What would you do if the workers ask for an untimely bonus? What is the procedure that you would employ in terms of irregularities and lateness?Do you believe that a manager should be the boss or a friend to the employees? How would address the personnel in terms of achieving a very difficult target? What would be your plan of action if an employee falters twice on the same issue? How important it is to evaluate personnel in terms of skill and personality? Which one is more important? There are several types of characteristics and experience that I would look for in the candidate of a manager. First, there must be sense of responsibility and an essence of leadership in this person. This person should always be ready to take up the charge and accept challenge. This person should be able to formulate quick strategies for operation and should be a good organizer. Furthermore, this person must be a successful motivator and should be able to work successfully under adverse conditions. Despite our choice of one particular style of leadership, even during times of crisis (such as an organizational overhaul), we must keep in mind that no one leadership model can be our sole key to success. Our managerial capacities are proved only by means of our ability to combine and amalgamate various styles in order to obtain the results we are keen on achieving. For this, it is important for us to understand and tabulate our specific requirements and desired outcome before everything else. It is also of some value to understand our own selves and find out what our personal style of leadership is. Often our own unique approach, though theoretically quite inappropriate in a given situation, can prove to be a real savior.A good manager must inject these qualities into the subordinates too. Such a leader is easily accessible and believes in keeping themselves available and in full view. They communicate their conviction in their workers strongly enough to convince them of their own capacities. It can we ll be stated that all these are the fundamental requirements of an able and successful manager and leader of the subordinate staffs. Dennis vs US essays

Dennis vs US essays This case focuses on the Smith Act, which was passed in the late 1940s. Under this act It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly or willfully advocate, abet, advise, or teach the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of the overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence... It also targets organizers of groups intending to commit such acts, as well as people who publish or in any other way support a movement with the end goal being the actions described above. In particular, this case focuses around the 11 members of the Communist Party of the United States who were planning the violent overthrow of the United States government, which is prohibited under the Smith Act. [Section 3] The communists are convicted and appeal, contending the Smith Act is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court, in the end sides with the government based on a series of reasoning. First they agree with the Court of Appeals, which finds that the Marcist-Leninist doctrine the Communist Party subscribes to, in itself, states that a violent overthrow of government in an existing democratic state is necessary because the ruling classes would not allow any other method of revolution. They also found Communists tolerate no dissension from the policy laid down by the guiding forces, but that approved program is slavishly followed by the members of the party. The Supreme Court also argues that many laws require an evil intent and that the petitioners are wrong in saying there is no evil intent. If that precise mental state [must] be an essential element of a crime, surel an intent to overthrow the Government of the United States by advocacy thereof is equally susceptible of proof. The Court continues by saying that change to the government and constitution is all right, as long as it is done legally, but that Congress has a right to protect the Government ...

The Health Benefits of Tanning

The Health Benefits of Tanning Free Online Research Papers The therapeutic exposure to sunlight has origin in ancient Chinese and Egyptian medicine. Recently, however, there has been much controversy as to whether or not tanning is a good idea, whether or not it is healthy. The popularity of tanning beds has greatly risen with adults, yet skyrocketed with image-obsessed teens. Although many warn it against, people are starting to urge others to tan, stressing the numerous benefits, for both health and self-esteem. Tanning in and of itself is not unhealthy; contrary to what many think, tanning is very healthy for you in a number of ways. â€Å"Tans are natural shields against the suns ultraviolet radiation, which can damage skin tissue in the form of a sunburn (as well as cause cancer in the long-run). Exposure to ultraviolet rays causes certain skin cells to produce the pigment melanin, which darkens through oxidation. Enough beach bumming and those cells will migrate closer to the skins surface and produce more melanin, further darkening the skin into a suntan. Its no wonder our bodies have developed the ability to produce melanin. The pigment absorbs ultraviolet radiation and defends against further penetration of skin tissue.† (8) Tans are great because they are our body’s natural protection against sunburns, and without them we would be much more susceptible to burns and skin cancer. This is why, during the summer, people get burned the first time they go into the sun – because their bodies are not yet prepared to fight sunburns. Tanning is necessary to prevent against burning and hu rting the skin, and tanning beds are great and easy ways to tan in a controlled atmosphere. Beginning with physical appearance, tanning adds a young and healthy glow. In addition, a tan makes one look more muscular and defined, and will help hide visible veins, body hair, and impurities in or on the skin. With the intense pressure to look one’s best, many resort to tanning to give themselves a young and healthy look, but do not completely understand its full effect. Tanning has proven to help many skin conditions, from acne to eczema, and even psoriasis, â€Å"a fairly common and extremely persistent skin disease †¦ the typical lesion of psoriasis is a red, sharply circumscribed patch with silvery scales.† (11) In fact, eighty percent of psoriasis sufferers who tan show improvement as a direct result of their exposure to the ultraviolet light. â€Å"The skin disease had plagued Candy Knox since childhood. Each winter, the red, scaly patches indicative of psoriasis would reappear on her arms and Knox would once again contend with discomfort and feel ings of insecurity. But a few years ago her dermatologist recommended a surprising treatment that has helped Knox cope when cold weather hits: indoor tanning. ‘My doctor said my best bet was to move to Florida or go tanning when I needed it,’ said Knox, who now makes periodic trips to the tanning booth. ‘It really seems to help whenever I have a breakout.’† (5) Sunlight has proven to affect over one hundred of the body’s function. Exposure to light has proven to lower the resting heart rate and blood pressure. It also lowers cholesterol because the body uses the liver’s cholesterol as raw material to produce vitamin D. Sunlight reduces stress and can help the immune system, as well as increase the skin’s resistance to infections. With exercise, sunlight has many beneficial results, as it heightens physical performance. Sunlight can increase cardiac output, as well as increase energy, endurance, and muscular strength. Lastly, it is proven that â€Å"sunlight stimulates the thyroid gland, which boosts your metabolism.† (9) Seasonal Affective Disorder is also known as winter depression, an affective mood disorder that stems from lack of sunlight. Most SAD sufferers experience regular mental health throughout most of the year, but experience depression symptoms during the winter months. Dyane Riel, for example, was born and raised in a small Canadian village where it snows in October and stays dark for almost half the year. Riel said many of the locals experience Seasonal Affective Disorder. â€Å"A lot of people I knew were depressed all the time† Says Dyane. â€Å"They opened tanning shops in town and everyone uses them. Many people go south for vacations as well. These things are great therapy for them.† (5) Also, exposure to bright light has been found to alleviate some symptoms of Pre Menstrual Syndrome, or PMS, such as mild depression, mood swings, physical discomfort, irritability, and social withdrawal. Looking at other health benefits, tanning has been shown to release endorphins, a chemical that produces a happy, pleasant feeling. It also produces vitamin D, a vitamin many people are deficient in, which is necessary for calcium absorption in the body. Tanning beds are great because one can go at any time they are available and get that sunlight they have been lacking. One of the benefits of going tanning is that the exposure to UVB light is the bodys natural way to produce vitamins. A great percentage of today’s population is vitamin D deficient. People get between ninety and ninety-five perfect of their vitamin D through sun exposure, and people are going outdoors less and less as the years go by. For example, the vast majority of people works indoors, drives cars instead of walking or biking, and exercises inside a gym as opposed to running or working out outside. One of the greatest benefits of tanning is the increased production of vitamin D, which is an excellen t vitamin for a number of reasons. Research has recently shown that individuals with healthy vitamin D levels are much less likely to develop certain forms of cancer, such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer. These life-threatening cancers are much more common in those who do not receive regular sunlight, as vitamin D plays a role in slowing the growth of the cancer cells in these kinds of tumors. When vitamin D is missing, your body releases another hormone, parathyroid, to pull calcium out of the skeleton. One result of this is osteoporosis, a bone-brittling disease which leads to approximately one million hip or bone fractures a year. â€Å"[Boston University medical school professor Michael] Holick believes the high rates of osteoporosis among the elderly can be partly traced to the fact that many spend little time outside and theyre diligent sunscreen wearers. Indeed, studies suggest that 30 to 40 percent of American and British elders with hip fractures were low on [vitamin] D. The problem could be remedied with the same ultraviolet lights that iguana owners use for their pets. ‘We dont do this for nursing home residents,’ Holick says, ‘but we’ll spend 40 bucks for lights for an iguana.’† (10) Osteoporosis and cancer, however, are not the only health risks from vitamin D deficiency that we should worry about. â€Å"Current research indicates vitamin D deficiency plays a role in causing seventeen varieties of cancer as well as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, muscle wasting, birth defects, and periodontal disease. (7) In Finland, where the sun shows for only a few hours a day during wintertime, natives have the world’s highest incidence of Type 1 diabetes. In a study tracking ten thousand children, researchers discovered that those who had regular doses of vitamin D as infants were approximately 80 percent less likely to develop Type 1 diabetes than those who did not get enough of it. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is more common the farther one is from the equator. Aforementioned Professor Holick â€Å"recruited 18 volunteers with mild hypertension and put them under UVB lights for at least six minutes three times a week. After six weeks, the amount of D in their systems had more than doubled and their blood pressure had dropped significantly to normal for some.† Tanning is undoubtedly good for ones health and appearance, as mentioned before, but many people question why tanning beds are so popular when the sun is free. However, there are a great number of reasons why tanning beds are superior. First of all, there are parts of the Earth that do not always receive as much sunlight as needed during the day for people to remain healthy. Professor Holick joked, â€Å"you could stand outside naked from the time the sun rises till it sets and you won’t make any [vitamin] D.† (10) The vast majority of people that do not already tan don’t realize that tanning salons have different strengths of beds, and customers can choose how long they are exposed to the UV rays. Tanners can use either the lotions sold at the store to enhance their tans or a light sunblock to lessen it, however exposure to UV rays from either tanning or the sun is greatly recommended by many doctors to treat skin conditions and prevent a vast number of hea lth risks. In conclusion, tanning is best in small doses, almost deemed necessary for a multitude of reasons. From the prevention of cancers, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, depression, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, muscle weakness or wasting, birth defects, and periodontal disease to just wanting to look and feel better, tanning is a great way to stay healthy and look good.
